Fast Food Options

Fast food has taken our nation by storm and for many people it has wreaked much havoc on diet and exercise. Fast food is, well fast and in today’s fast paced world, it is important to have something quick because most people don’t have time for the at-home dinners that take a while to fix. Even many stay-at-home moms find that they have very little time to make dinner due to kid’s homework, sports and other afternoon things. Fast food had gained much popularity in the past five years alone.

When it comes to fast foods, it is not about where you eat, it’s about what you eat. You can eat at McDonalds and still maintain a healthy meal. Here are some things to look for when it comes to eating at fast food restaurants.

Deep-Fried – Stay away from anything that is deep-fried such as batter dipped chicken. Instead choose something that is grilled, you can never go wrong with grilled chicken, turkey, fish or even veggies.

Take Out The Condiments – Sometimes the only thing making your food extremely unhealthy is the condiments that are on them. Many places don’t do the fat-free or light sauces and condiments. You’re not going to see fat-free mayo on your chicken burger. It is going to be the fattening kind. So take off the sour cream, the spreads, the cheeses, and the salad dressings that are packed with calories.

Choose Water – Water is not only good for you, it could help you lose weight as well. Soda has a lot of calories and can include a huge portion of the calories you are supposed to have in one day alone. If water is not your taste, try unsweetened iced tea.

Don’t Super-Size It – An average size can be at least 1,000 calories, not to mention the calories that are tacked on to a super-sized meal. When you are ordering a meal from a fast food restaurant, ask for a salad instead of fries, this will help take off some calories as well.

Watch Out for Salt – Salt is wrong on so many levels but one of the worst is blood pressure. Fast food already comes loaded with salt, so put those small salt packets back into the dispenser. Take advantage of places using sea-salt.

You don’t have to stop eating at fast food restaurants, you just have to know what to leave off and this is a helpful to help you eat your best on a tight schedule.
